Monthly Consultation

Monthly Consultation Service
Our monthly Consultation service is currently running on the third Wednesday of each month, from 9.30am to 11am. Coffee and croissants will be provided once this service resumes in person - for now our consultation service runs online.

What is the Purpose of Our Consultation Meeting?

Anyone working with current or former unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors is welcome to come to discuss any challenges and problems of the work including issues and themes in the internal and the external worlds of young people and difficulties experienced by workers. We plan to explore issues shared in a confidential context and within the frame of reference of our holistic and integrated approach.

The Baobab Centre runs a community for young asylum seekers which has two central aims which are rehabilitation and justice. Rehabilitation and support are offered via individual and group psychotherapy, specialist casework and the preparation of specialist expert reports that support young people’s asylum claims. We aim to work towards justice for our population through working with individual vulnerable young people to ensure that their complex practical and psychological needs are assessed and met. At the same time we work to challenge inadequate policy and practice in the agencies which work with, assess and make key decisions about the lives of young asylum seekers.

Clinicians, social workers, lawyers , NGO workers and staff of statutory agencies are welcome to come to our consultation meetings and think together. These meetings are not referral meetings though we are happy to discuss individual situations and try to create a way forward.

Please let us know if you would like to attend our next meeting by emailing us on: elisa.obrien@baobabsurvivors.org.

If you want to make a referral, please see our page on how to make a referral.
