Five Ways to Support Baobab

Our volunteers and supporters make it possible for us to change lives. The support and help that we receive from them takes many forms and is invaluable.

NEW Jan 2023: SUPPORT OUR WORK BY BUYING OUR NEW RESILIENCE BOOK: Behind the Mask: Unknown Voices from the Baobab Centre for Young Survivors in Exile

Over many years Baobab’s community members have been creating a short book: ‘Behind the Mask’. The book is written by our young community members and is meant as a resource for other people who have experienced similar struggles. It contains reflections and advice on topics including: Isolation, Depression, What makes you laugh, Cultural transitions, Housing, Uncertainty, Patience and Our Wishes, Hopes and Dreams.

This is how our community editors describe it: The words in this book come from us, young people from Baobab. We have been in very difficult situations and struggles. We would like to help other young people who are going through similar difficulties and struggles. We would like to share with you how we managed and what we did.’

The book is available to buy, and all proceeds go towards Baobab’s work supporting young asylum seekers and refugees.

  • £12 per copy plus postage (£2.95 for one)
  • For over 20 copies the cost is £10 per copy plus postage (depends on quantity)

To place an order please contact info@baobabsurvivors.org with ‘Resilience Book’ as your subject line and include your address and how many copies you would like to purchase and one of the team will get back to you with payment information.

Volunteer

The Baobab Centre would not be able to do the work it does without the support of our committed volunteers who give their time and their skills so generously.  Our volunteer roles range from clinician and volunteer administrators to casework volunteers and befrienders.  Please note that we have a rigorous child protection policy and volunteers will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check (police check).  Due to the amount of staff time required in ensuring our volunteers are properly inducted and supported within our small organisation, we also ask for our volunteers to try to make a commitment of being with us for at least four months. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the volunteer page Volunteering at Baobab to view current vacancies.

Set up a fundraising event

Setting up a fundraising event for Baobab is an exciting way to support our work. Your support is greatly appreciated. No matter how big or small the sum you raise, you are making a vital difference to the young people we work with.

Supporters raising funds for us have taken part in a variety of activities including running marathons, doing bike rides or sponsored cake bakes.  Others have set up their own donations page so that guests at weddings and birthdays can donate to Baobab in lieu of presents.

You can set up your own donation page and fundraising event on LocalGiving. Past supporters have asked wedding or birthday party guests to donate to the Baobab Centre in lieu of presents.
